Description
This presentation was developed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) team dedicated to helping law enforcement cope with the rising number of active shooter incidents and other related complex attacks. Our program is designed to create awareness for civilians in general and members of the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce, specifically.
Law Enforcement officials are learning that no matter how quick the response time, it is never going to be fast enough to stop the carnage of a determined shooter. Therefore, the actions taken by the civilians involved in an active shooter event are critically important in determining the severity and outcome of an event.
The purpose of this presentation is to provide civilians with a greater understanding of what to do should they ever find themselves in an active shooter situation. The importance of proactively planning to deal with these types of events will be emphasized. Participants will learn responsibility for their own survival and understand Run, Hide, Fight options recommended by the FBI and U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Learning objectives:
1. Define "Active Shooter"
2. Analyze statistical data related to active shooter events.
3. Provide a brief history of active shooter events.
4. Discuss planning for an active shooter event.
5. Explain what to do if involved in an active shooter event.
6. Discuss working with first responders.
7. Discuss medical considerations.
8. Discuss organizational planning.
9. Discuss pre-attack behavioral indicators.
